The company came into proper existence in 1984 with the retirement of two Warrant Officers of the Royal Marines Band Service. They had over 56 years of experience between them — one retiring as the Corps Bandmaster and the other as the Chief Librarian. Both sought to continue their musical career and felt that it would be a total waste of their experience if they did not continue to develop their knowledge of military (wind) band music. The company was originally established in 1978 whilst both were serving in the Royal Marines Band, but was set up on an official basis upon their retirement with the aim of publishing music for military and brass band, much of it written by our ex-colleagues in the Royal Marines.
We decided to promote our catalogue of music by employing the Royal Marines Band from Deal to make an LP record which we titled “Old Comrades — New Comrades” This was recorded in the famous Abbey Road Studios of EMI. To launch the record we commissioned the same Royal Marines Band to perform a concert in the Winter Gardens, Margate.
From those early days we have now an extensive catalogue of almost all available Royal Marines recordings and have promoted over 80 concerts with the Royal Marines Band. Click here to see details of the 2010 concerts. Next year’s concerts will be published in December.
Thus we use the word “specialists” without reservation knowing that no-one in the world knows more about Royal Marines Band recordings than us.
In January 2000 we sold our music publishing aspect to Valentine Music who are retaining the name Cinque Port Music Publishers and in June 2001 sold our printing aspect which now enables us to concentrate solely on the other two aspects: promoting concerts with the Royal Marines bands and selling our Royal Marines recordings by both mail order and over the internet.
Please enter our site and view our catalogue — we are confident you will find many things of interest. We are sorry that we are not yet able to take orders on-line — we’re working on it, just need to learn how! But we can take PayPal which is easy. We assure you of a personal approach that on-line ordering cannot offer.
Since April 2010 the company has been owned by Mike Scurfield and Kerry Wilton
